MANILA – The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will deploy 4,000 police officers to ensure the peaceful conduct of local campaign activities which begin on Friday.
NCRPO chief Major General Felipe Natividad said Thursday that police personnel in the region are equipped to patrol and monitor their areas of responsibility to prevent criminal activity and respond to untoward incidents.
The five police districts under the NCRPO are Manila Police District (MPD), Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Northern Police District (NPD), Southern Police District (SPD) and the Eastern Police District (EPD).
“The upcoming national and local elections in 2022 are expected to be tougher than they were before taking into account that we are currently facing a global health crisis. We need to change our strategies to adapt to the new environment,” Natividad said in a statement.
He added that they will continue to maximize police presence and conduct relentless operations to ensure safe, peaceful and fair elections.
The Electoral Commission (Comelec) has removed the rule for obtaining permission from its campaign committee for holding rallies in areas under alert levels 1 and 2.
Campaign activities were also allowed at 100% capacity and 70% capacity for Alert Level 1 and 2 areas, respectively.
Previously, only 70% capacity was allowed for campaign activities in areas under Alert Level 1, while 50% capacity was allowed under Alert Level 2.
However, handshakes, kisses and selfies remain banned under relaxed campaign rules amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, in observance of the summer vacation, NCRPO is implementing “Ligtas Sumvac 2022” and will deploy 11,352 police officers to maintain peace and order, enforce law and ensure the implementation of standard protocols. public health standards throughout the region.
Natividad ensured an optimal police presence in the convergence zones, regardless of lesser restrictions on movement and the gathering of people due to the downgrading of the alert level classification.
With the various activities seen during SUMVAC such as Filipino Veterans Week, Araw ng Kagitingan, Lent, Season, Labor Day, Flores De Mayo as well as state and local elections, police are expecting an influx of people in public places to include tourist destinations, transport hub terminals, places of worship, malls, markets, shopping areas, parks and other parts of the community.
In addition to this, Natividad has directed all District Directors and Station Commanders to focus on implementing the Enhanced Police Operations Management Strategy and other preventative security measures while the public enjoys the family reunions, town parties and other important events.
In addition, coordination between partner agencies such as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Local Government Units (LGUs), Force Multipliers, Volunteer Groups and other relevant agencies was carried out for countermeasures. hardening of targets; traffic management/direction and control of other police-related public safety services to ensure the safety and protection of the public and their property.
The NCRPO, through its Regional Community Affairs Development Division (RCADD), will distribute safety tips brochures; and strengthen public engagement and information dissemination for this summer vacation.
