A la carte food festivals in Puerto Rico and St. Martin: Travel Weekly


Foodies can savor the culinary heritage of two island destinations this month.

Puerto Rico’s reputation as a culinary destination will be on display at the upcoming Taste of Rio Mar Culinary Weekend, hosted by the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Golf & Beach Resort in Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico shows off its cooking style

Returning after a year of absence due to Covid, the event features appearances from 10 renowned Puerto Rican chefs showcasing their cooking styles, exclusive menus and unique variations of classic dishes at the weekend’s event. November 12 to 14.

Wyndham’s two-night dining package includes lodging, opening night welcome reception on the resort’s beach terrace with five dining stations, a la carte breakfast, seven course dinner the second evening, a Sunday brunch, a round of golf and a late checkout, priced at $ 1,275 for two adults or $ 885 for one adult.

Celebrate the cuisine of Saint-Martin

The Festival of Gastronomy de Saint-Martin will celebrate the French cuisine of Saint-Martin from November 13 to 20. The inaugural event will feature dishes created by international chefs, including two Michelin-starred chefs from France, in partnership with local chefs in restaurants on the island.

“The last food festival here dates back years, which is why we are delighted to welcome foodies from all over the world so that they can participate in a unique experience during this two-week event,” said Aida Weinum , director of the Saint-Martin Tourist Office.

The festival will have three parts.

Five cooking demonstrations will take place on both Saturdays during the festival.

In a Best Table restaurant competition among 76 restaurants, each restaurant will create a specialty menu incorporating tamarind, a local seasonal fruit.

There will also be a competition for students from the local culinary school. The winning student will receive a two-week immersion course in one of the best culinary schools in France and an internship in the restaurant that wins the competition for the best table.
