Central Neighborhoods Shine in TN Tourism Awards


Winners from Tiruchi, Thanjavur and Pudukottai made a name for the region at the Tamil Nadu State Tourism Awards presented by the Ministry of Tourism in Chennai this week.

The awards ceremony was opened on Tuesday (September 27, World Tourism Day) by Mr. Mathiventhan, Minister of Tourism, at Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai. B. Chandra Mohan, Principal Secretary, Department of Tourism, Culture and Religious Endowments, Sandeep Nanduri, Director of Tourism and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, and SR Gandhi, Director of Arts and Culture Department of Tamil Nadu, were present on the occasion.

Tiruchi-based travel agency Cholan Tours won gold in the incoming and domestic tour operator categories. The city’s KMS Hakkim Kalyana Biryani restaurant, which was named the best traditional cuisine restaurant, added to these accolades.

In the hospitality sector, Chidambara Vilas in Tirumayam, Pudukottai district won the award for best heritage hotel, while Indian Residency in Srirangam was named best homestay property. Tamil Nadu Hotel in Thanjavur has won the TTDC Star Performer award in the budget hotel category.

The Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur has been named as the cleanest tourist destination. In the individual awards, Selvam Maruthamuthu from Thanjavur won the best tour guide award.

“This is a truly proud achievement for all winners, as the industry has gone through a difficult time during the COVID-19 lockdown. Applicants were required to submit verified documents for review, to enable a fair judgment of their efforts. Authorities have also issued new safety guidelines for promoters of adventure tours, camping, caravan travel and parks, guesthouses and homestays during the Chennai event. .
