Charging stations for electric vehicles across Karnataka | Mysore News

MYSURU: One of the main obstacles for electric vehicles has been the lack of charging stations, but Karnataka will have an answer to that soon. Public sector electricity supply companies have started work on opening electric vehicle charging centers in important government offices and other places like gas stations, tourist spots, among others.
One of the ambitious announcements of the 2021-2022 State budget is the establishment of 1,000 charging stations for electric vehicles which will be set up as part of the public-private partnership. Today, this initiative has been undertaken by the National Electricity Supply Companies (ESCOM). For example, in five districts of its jurisdiction – Mysuru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya and Chamarajanagar – Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Ltd has offered 150 such centers, while Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited, which has its jurisdictions in four districts, in namely Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagalur and Shivamogga have offered such centers in 170 localities. The majority of these locations are identified near government offices.
In five districts of the CESC’s jurisdiction, 150 locations on government premises have been identified for the installation of these charging stations. “We have identified offices located in urban areas,” explained Jayavibhava Swamy, MD, CESC. “We have sent the proposal to the state government in this regard,” he said.
“Along with this, we are also planning to set up another 100 electric vehicle charging centers at tourist sites like Mysuru Zoo, restaurants, amusement parks, gas stations, etc., where vehicles electrics can be recharged in 30 minutes, ”he said.
Prashant Kumar Mishra, CEO of Mescom, informed that his company has set itself the goal of setting up 170 charging stations for electric vehicles. “In accordance with the government decree, we identified 170 locations in the Mescom jurisdiction and sent the information to Bescom. Bescom is the nodal agency. Now they are going to do a feasibility study before moving the proposal forward, ”he explained.
“In addition to this, we are also coordinating with gas stations to undertake work on EV stations on the national highways of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi,” he explained.
