HONOLULU — On Oct. 1, 2022, Governor David Ige will travel to San Francisco for a series of meetings with credit rating agencies. The governor and members of his team are working to secure favorable bond ratings that will allow the state to borrow money at the lowest possible interest rates.
Any savings from reduced interest payments will translate into more general funds that will be available for affordable housing, education, health care and other important public programs. The state primarily seeks to fund new capital improvement projects.
The Governor is traveling with Chief Financial Officer Craig Hirai, Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism Director Mike McCartney, Budget and Finance Administrator Rod Becker and Chief State Economist Dr. Eugene Tian, from the Department of Business, Economics. Development and Tourism.
The team meets with representatives from Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s.
Governor Ige is scheduled to return to Honolulu on October 5, 2022. Lieutenant Governor Josh Green will serve as acting governor while Governor Ige is out of town.
