Cycling’s most prestigious event, the Tour de France, is gearing up for a memorable month of fierce competition in July.

Additionally, 2022 will see the first-ever Tour de France Women with Zwift, with both races available live, for free and in HD exclusive to SBS of friday july 1.

SBS will provide extensive coverage of both Tour de France and Tour de France Women with Zwift with the men’s race from July 1 to July 24 and the women’s race from July 24 to July 31.

Covering four countries, the 109e Tour de France will begin in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, before moving south through France, Belgium and Switzerland, ending in Paris.

The race will feature nine new stage cities, with 21 stages in total, including six mountain stages with five summit finishes, six flat stages, seven hilly stages and two individual time trials.

In France, the race will visit 8 regions and 29 departments with stage six offering the longest trek at 220km while stage five will see the return of the cobblestones after a four-year absence, with 19.4km of cobblestones spread over 11 sections.

In a groundbreaking first edition of the Tour de France Women with Zwift, riders will be cross three regions and 11 departments in eight days, starting in Paris and ending at La super Planche des Belles Filles.

The race will feature a total of eight stages, including two hilly stages, four flat stages and two mountain stages with a summit finish on stage eight. The third stage will see the track start to incline before reaching the striking “white roads” of the fourth stage where the riders will navigate on chalky tracks through the vineyards of Champagne.

The race will also feature a mountain range, the Vosges, in the final two stages, while stage five will be the longest at 174km.

For the first time since 2019, the SBS commentary team will be back on the pitch in France for exclusive coverage in the thick of the action.

Collaborate to bring viewers expert commentary and trusted analysis for 2022 Tour de France are Matthew Keenan whose cycling prowess brings him to his 16e year commentating on the Tour, world hour record holder and Australian time trial champion Dr. Bridie O’Donnell and Simon Gerrans, whose distinguished cycling career includes victories at Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Milan-San Remo and stage wins in all three Grand Tours.

Join the commentary team for the Tour de France Women with Zwift will be a two-time national road champion and a founding member of the very first independent international women’s cycling union Gracie Elvin.

On-site reporting will be the former Giro d’Italia stage winner and longtime SBS presenter David McKenzieFrench SBS radio stations Christophe Mallet and Gracie Elvin.

The trio will also present daily highlights every night from 5-6 p.m. weekdays and 4:30-5:30 p.m. weekends. Together, the team will provide a comprehensive experience for viewers with breaking news, exclusive interviews, diverse voices from the race and stories from inside the peloton as they get closer and personal at every stage.

Marc Renshaw will provide audiences with unique insights and in-depth analysis of how key milestones are won and lost as host of a new digital companion series The final.
