More station workers received booster doses against Covid-19.
The Ministry of Tourism, through its latest weekly figures, revealed that the percentage of resort workers who received their reminders had been pushed to 16.6% at the end of January.
Statistics also showed that 98% of people employed at resorts in the Maldives tourism industry were fully vaccinated against coronavirus by early February.
Additionally, 99.5% of station workers have received the first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine so far.
Authorities launched the Covid-19 vaccination campaign for workers in the tourism industry on February 4, 2021.
Priority is given to the vaccination of employees in the tourism sector who come into close contact with tourists, such as those working on cruise ships, employees of bed and breakfasts and those performing service functions at the customers in various tourist establishments.
The Maldives has made steady efforts to revive tourism across the island nation and has launched a large-scale vaccination program against Covid-19 for airport workers and employees in the tourism sector.
The ministry revealed that 0.19% of tourists who arrived in the Maldives between July 15 and December 31, 2020 tested positive for the virus, while the positivity rate among tourists between January 1 and December 31, 2021 was by 0.30%. The rate jumped to 0.64% between January 1 and February 2 this year.
The booster doses were rolled out for frontliners in the tourism sector in association with the Health Protection Agency (HPA) very recently.
Earlier, the ministry launched the “I’m Vaccinated” campaign with the aim of sharing a positive message regarding the vaccinations of personnel employed in the industry as well as promoting the initiatives taken to ensure that the Maldives remains one of the destinations safest travel.
The ministry aims to make the Maldives the first fully vaccinated tourism sector in the world. The strict health and safety guidelines currently in place will help achieve this, plus the added benefit of the unique Maldives training that ensures social distancing.
Tourism in the Maldives has been hit hard due to the pandemic and tourism recovery travel has been slow at first since the borders reopened on July 15, 2020.
Nationwide vaccination figures began to rise at a time when the Health Protection Agency (HPA) also began giving booster doses to people at high risk of complications from the virus.
