IPOH: Landowner of Gunung Bujang Melaka porphyry granite site, Kampar, is ready to turn the area into a tourist attraction, says Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi (Photo).
The chairman of the national tourism and local government committee, however, said there were many aspects to consider, particularly safety and security issues before the site could be opened to the public.
“We met with the owner of the land, as well as related agencies like the Department of Minerals and Geosciences, to discuss its potential.
“Several concerns were raised during the meeting, including security issues,” she told reporters here on Thursday (August 25).
“We will continue to do more research and discussion before making any decisions,” she added.

On August 4, a 21-second video of the site went viral with many people expressing interest in visiting the place.
Nolee Ashilin had said authorities had traveled to the area after being contacted about the video by the local council and district officer.
The site has been fenced off to prevent intrusions for the time being, she added.
“It is still private land and no one should enter it.
“We couldn’t arrest those who went there earlier (but) we want to make sure the place is safe before allowing future visits,” she said.
“I was also informed that the people in the viral video were trespassing and taking an alternate route through a nearby forest to get there.
“The general public has to wait a bit. In its current state, the site cannot accommodate visitors.
“There is no guarantee of safety or security yet, so hopefully people will be patient,” she added.
