The PGA Tour heads to the Dominican Republic this weekend for the Corales Puntacana Championship and an alternate event at the WGC Match Play Event in Austin, TX. While the Tour heavyweights will be on display in Austin, that leaves a lot of value in a lighter-than-usual field here.
With 300 FedEx Cup points and a two-year tour exemption still in play, it should still be a dogfight in the peloton this week. Let’s look at a golfer I expect to have a great weekend.
Previous winners of the Corales Puntacana Championship
- 2021: Joel Dahmen
- 2020: Hudson Swafford
- 2019: Graeme McDowell
Course Overview: Corales Country Club
Known for his long distances and forgiving greens, Corales plays for 7,600 yards and is well above the Tour average. Speaking of greens, none boast a stimpmeter reading of more than 11 and are among the lowest on the Tour.
While many of the first nine holes leave opportunities for birdies, the 16-18 stretch is among the toughest three-hole stretches on the course, with 18 being the toughest. With a third of the holes directly overlooking the Caribbean Sea, those who can play well in windy conditions should also be considered this week.

Hudson Swaford (+5000 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
A name only the most diehard golf fans will know, Hudson Swafford appears to be undervalued this week at odds of 50/1. In his last two starts at Corales, Swafford has picked up a win here in 2020 and a T6 last year, as his mix of distance and birdie ability does very well.
He also enters the Event of the Year +1.36 set hits earned over his 10 rounds at Corales, good enough for No. 3 in the field this week. His top-40 ranking in driving distance and birdie average also puts him in the top 20 of the field this week in both metrics.
Heading into the week after back-to-back missed cuts, Swafford still has two top 10s, including an outright victory (The American Express) earlier this calendar year. I like Swafford for getting back on track this week in a field with few elite players let alone more successful.
