DOVER, TN (WSMV) – This week, an inmate who escaped while being taken to rehab and fled to Ohio was returned to Stewart County Detention Center.

Stewart County Sheriff’s Office media relations coordinator Paulette Redman said she arrested Meghan McElory for drug trafficking. She was taken to the Hope Center, where the sheriff’s office said she escaped. The sheriff’s office said it was not the deputies who took her to the Hope Center.

According to the sheriff’s office, McElroy traveled to Ohio, where she previously lived. The sheriff’s office said she was later arrested for theft and warrants on file.

“Many jurisdictions will not extradite people from other states or great distances who only have simple drug charges. Sheriff Gray’s zero tolerance drug policy in our county also includes ensuring that drug offenders are doing their time,” the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook. page.

On Wednesday, Stewart County deputies picked up McElroy and returned her 6 p.m. to the Stewart County Detention Center.
