MEMPHIS, TN. – The Memphis women’s soccer team will split time this week as they host future American Athletic Conference opponent Florida Atlantic on Thursday night before hitting the road for a game against Big 12 foe , Indiana, Sunday night.
The Tigers (3-3) are coming off a weekend in ACC territory where they battled Louisville and #5 Virginia.
“After a tough weekend against the ACC teams, one of them being one of the best teams in the country, we have a choice – to look at it negatively or look at it positively. And I chose to choose the positive side and learn from it,” said the head coach of women’s football Brooks Monaghan.
For the season, Momo Nakao and Anne-Valerie Seto leading the team with three goals apiece while Jocelyn Alonzo has a team-high three assists.
FAU (2-2-2) is coming off a 1-0 loss to Gulf Coast Florida where fouls led to the Owls loss. FGCU was able to find the back of the net at 88′ to clinch their second victory of the season.
The goal scored for FAU has come from just four different players this season; Bri Austin and Sofia Voldby each scored two goals while Gi Krstec and Mia Sennes netted one each.
Indiana (1-0-3) has struggled this season, earning its only victory last weekend beating Indiana State 3-0 in Bloomington. All three of Hoosier’s goals came in the second half through Paige Webber, Jen Blitchok and Anna Bennett.
Memphis currently leads the all-time game streak against FAU and Indiana. They have combined four wins on both programs heading into this weekend.
“We have two tough games this week against quality opponents,” Monaghan said. “It’s very important that we take things from last weekend to improve a bit and give us the best chance of success.”
